Koh Samui: Private Longtail Boat to Pig Island with Snorkel

4.3 (656 verified reviews)

About This Experience

A private longtail with your own captain, priced per boat rather than per seat: the starting price covers a group of up to two people, and larger parties are quoted per boat as well. For a couple that works out at roughly the price of two seats on a shared speedboat, with nobody else aboard.

The route is the standard pair — Koh Tan for the reef, then Koh Madsum for the pigs and the beach — but the pace is yours. The afternoon departure is the one to take if you want the island quiet: the shared boats have gone by then and the beach empties out.

This is the stripped-back option. There is no hotel transfer, no lunch and no guide in the usual sense — your captain is a local boatman whose English is basic. What you get instead is a boat that goes where you want it to and waits as long as you like.

What Travelers Say

Rated 4.3/5 by 656 verified GetYourGuide travelers.

It was a great experience! The captain was incredibly friendly and helpful. The boat ride was already a highlight, and I was very happy to have booked a private one. The island is also an experience. The pigs run around happily, wagging their tails, with no trace of fear. However, hand feeding is not a good idea. As soon as the pigs see the food, the big ones in particular come running at you, and they are relatively rough. I would ABSOLUTELY NOT let children, in particular, feed the pigs. Apart from that, they fight among themselves for the food, so I also preferred to keep my distance. Our guide made a hole in the lid of the water bottle so that we could give the pigs water, which they were very grateful for. Snorkeling among schools of fish was also incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend this activity. Thank you!

We had a very nice afternoon with snorkeling and the pigs. Unfortunately, the snorkeling reef is a "tourist reef" and, as a result, has been almost completely destroyed. Otherwise, everything was as expected

we were the 1st to the island and the pigs were great to see, and the baby piglets. they had some dogs on thr island and they were friendly to the humans, not so much to the pigs at times

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this priced per person or per boat?

Per boat. The starting price covers a group of up to two people, and larger groups are quoted per boat as well — so for a couple it lands close to two shared-boat seats.

Is hotel pickup included?

No. This is the one trip in the group without transfers. You meet the captain at Naphat Tour beside Thong Krut Pier, 15 minutes before departure.

Can I bring my own food onto Pig Island?

No. Outside food and drink are not allowed on Koh Madsum, including the water carried on the boat. Eat before you land or after you leave.

Is snorkelling guaranteed?

No. Koh Tan is dropped when the sea is against it. There is no partial refund in that case; the time is added to your stop at Pig Island instead.

How good is the captain’s English?

Basic. This is a boatman rather than a guide — the trade for having the boat to yourself at this price is that there is no commentary.
