Koh Samui: Pig Island & Koh Tan Snorkeling w/Viewpoint Hike

4.3 (752 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The cheapest way onto the water at Pig Island that still includes transfers, gear and island entrance fees — and the trade for the price is a longtail boat rather than a speedboat. That means a slower, noisier, considerably more Thai crossing, and a lot of people prefer it.

Koh Tan comes first for the snorkelling, with mask and life jacket provided. Koh Madsum follows, and this is the one trip in the group that offers a guided walk up to the island viewpoint — optional, short, and the only way to see the sandbar and the coastline from above.

The order of the two islands can swap depending on tide and sea state, and both morning and afternoon departures are sold. Meals are not included, but food is available to buy on the island.

What Travelers Say

Great fun activity- pick up seamless and on time. Pig Island was good fun lots of photo opportunities - the best bit for us was the snorkelling by the reef - a bit cloudy but we saw loads of fish a tiny turtle and some other cool stuff. Excellent value for money. A few tips 1. Bring a spare t shirt and shorts for the journey home you’ll get wet. 2. Bring a bottle of water and put a hole in the lid so you can squirt water for the pigs 3. It gets wet on the boat so bring dry bag or protection 4. Snorkelling easier with life jacket on as no flippers provided

The island is very nice. You can wash off completely in the little boat.

The guides were very kind, precise, and punctual. Everything was well organized, nothing was left to chance. It was truly a great experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is this trip so much cheaper than the others?

It uses a longtail boat instead of a speedboat and does not include a meal. Transfers, guide, snorkel gear and the island entrance fees are all still in the price.

Is the viewpoint hike hard?

It is short but steep and unpaved. Comfortable shoes make it straightforward; flip-flops do not.

Is lunch included?

No. Food is available to buy on the island, so bring cash if you plan to eat there.

Which island do we visit first?

Either — the order depends on the tide and sea conditions on the day. You get to both.

What is a longtail boat like compared with a speedboat?

Slower, open, and much louder, with the engine mounted on a long shaft at the stern. The crossing takes longer, and the ride sits closer to the water.
